Learning Disabilities

Valuing People, in its 2001 Whitepaper titled “A New Strategy for Learning Disability for the 21st Century,” defines a learning disability as follows:

  • It involves a significantly reduced capacity to understand new or complex information and to acquire new skills (impaired intelligence), along with a diminished ability to manage independently (impaired social functioning).
  • These challenges begin before childhood and have a lasting impact on development.

At Sunnah Social Care Ltd, we are dedicated to supporting and facilitating the transition for individuals with learning disabilities, promoting their independence, choice, and rights. One of our key support options for people with learning disabilities is supported living. In this model, we collaborate closely with private landlords and housing providers to help with learning disabilities create their ideal home and life while receiving empowering support that prioritizes their well-being. If an individual is assessed as lacking capacity for specific decisions, we follow the principles of the Mental Capacity Act. We ensure that Mental Capacity Assessments and Best Interest decisions are carried out, always considering the least restrictive care practices and the individual’s preferences.
